On July 29 the Midlothian ISD Board of Trustees approved Steve Keasler as the new Athletic Director. Keasler will oversee all athletic programs for the district. He is replacing Randy Bullock who served as AD since January 2006. Bullock accepted a position with FieldTurf Tarkett as the North Texas Sales Director.

Keasler stated, “Serving as the Athletic Director for the Midlothian ISD is a tremendous opportunity to be part of an upcoming athletic program in a fast growing community. I can sense that parents support their kids in a big way, which is truly a team effort. I look forward to leading an extracurricular program that will enhance the overall learning experience in the District.”

Since 2003, Keasler has been the assistant men’s golf coach at the University of Texas at Austin. Throughout his professional career he has successfully coached in various capacities in Callisburg ISD, Grand Prairie ISD, and Southlake Carroll ISD, where his teams earned numerous district and state titles. He received a BS in Physical Education and Health at East Texas State University and a Master of Science Administration degree at Texas Christian University.

He will assume his role as the new AD starting the week of August 4. He and his wife, Wendye, have two children Hogan, age 9, and Kaylee, age 7.

Freshmen, JV, and Varsity football calendar — good stuff!

The football booster website has a fantastic calendar of all upcoming football games Freshman through Varsity that will give you a quick reference point of who plays where in one convenient location. Nice go-to spot! I will also bookmark on the blog.

Football Calendar

Media Day is Thursday, August 21

We will get rolling with pics starting with coaches and their families around 8:30 followed by the trainers at 9am and Varsity at 9:15am. After working through Media Day last year, I hope we have a pretty good timeline set so that I can get each group through as quickly as possible.

Each player will receive a pre-paid envelope sometime during 2-a-days that will have the information below. Please fill it out prior to the shoot and bring to the stadium on picture day.

Added this year, per your requests, we now have BUTTONS!

There will be two photographers at the shoot, and we will do everything we can to make this go as quickly as possible. If you do not wish to purchase photos, you do not have to take your individual pic. ALL OF VARSITY WILL BE POSED FOR THE INDIVIDUAL SHOT (however, you are not required to purchase).

The freshmen teams will wrap up the morning as close to 12:30 as possible (that’s the plan anyway) so the coaches can get back to In-Service (sorry guys!)

Any questions, please do not hesitate to drop me a line or give me a call.

Time Frame to partner with Midlothian Football website

timeframe-football-helmet-website.jpg

I’m very excited to announce that PantherBlog will be heavily featured on the Midlothian Football official website as the “go-to” place to get the latest news, behind the scenes info, and and all you want to know about your Midlothian Panther football team.

I will be working with Dena Petty in uploading news and updates from her and the Boosters as we head into the next football season. We will be posting news articles of interest, highlighting senior players, promoting players of the week, and we really encourage everyone to jump in and comment.

I will be providing top pics of the week for the Midlothian Football website and we will work together to make both sites better than ever.

This should be a lot of fun. Since I’ve had a full year to get up to speed, the blog should really take off as we head into a new season.

7-on-7 Football Season and Injuries Incurred
by Shelly Moreland

As many of you are aware this season of 7-on-7 has brought several injuries to our boys. While the injuries are not limited to our boys in Midlothian, it has brought to our attention the need for changes to be made.

7-on-7 is played without any equipment with the exception of a mouth piece. Then concept of 7-on-7 is based on not having the contact involved in regular season play. However accidents will always happen. One of our Midlothian players had to have surgery after sustaining a head injury caused by colliding with another player. It is time for a change in the rules of what equipment our boys can wear. As 7-on-7 football grows as a competitive interschool sport it is evident of the need for the rules to be changed.

The Texas 7-on-7 State Board of Directors is the entity that makes the rules and regulations. It is time for a letter writing campaign. We need to e-mail each Executive Committee Member as well as all Board Members. It is time we as parents, as well as the people of our community, insist our boys are protected. We need to let them know that our players should be in helmets and protective gear. We need to put our boys as well as future boys safety a priority and nothing short of that is acceptable.

Please take a few minutes to email each 7-on-7 Board Member and insist on changes being made. Let them know that we are not willing to risk the safety of any children. Please go to http://www.state7on7.com and click on Board of Directors to get the entire list of who to contact. Please do it for our boys and all the boys to follow.
