NAIL-BITER!
(Feel free to drop a line on your thoughts from this game…)

I’m still tired from last night! In Midlothian’s season opener against Seguin, the Panthers came out of the gate slow and couldn’t seem to find momentum. Late in the second quarter, we finally scored, only to have Seguin come right back with a second touchdown.
Going into the locker room down 14-7, Midlo seemed stuck in second gear. After a fiery pep talk by Eddie Johnson, the guys seemed to find the clutch and kick into overdrive. Midlothian came out of halftime on fire with stauch defensive stands and started moving the ball with relative ease on offense. A fumble inside the 10, a missed field goal, and a missed 4th down conversion inside the 20 left the Panthers very frustrated.
With less than 6 minutes to go in the game, Caleb McEachern rumbled into the end zone to get with one of Seguin. In the midst of the celebration on the sideline, the PAT was blocked and Midlothian remained down 14-13.
Defense stepped up once again and severely limited Seguin’s movement. On a third and forever, Seguin finally found a man deep and got inside the 30 with approximately 4 minutes left in the game. Again, the Panthers held strong and got the ball back on a fumble. With less than 3:30 left deep in their own territory, Midlothian had to make this drive count to win.
Bryce, back in shotgun, fumbled on the snap and the ball bounced into the endzone. McEachern picks it up. At this point, I simply dropped the camera to my side and became a spectator like everyone else.Seguin’s defense swarms the endzone as Caleb scrambles 8 yards deep. In one of the most heads-up plays I can recall, Caleb realized he couldn’t escape and opted to throw the ball out of bounds.
Midlothian, catching their breath, settled down and started their march. On a crucial 3rd and long, Bryce found an open Caleb Russell for a crucial first down. Then came pay dirt. Petty launches a perfect throw to Dylan Fowler and he raced down the field for the go ahead score. The two point conversion failed.
Defense kept us in the game, defense closed the book on any chance Seguin had of scoring again. The quarterback was swallowed whole as Midlothian held them on downs and ran out the clock to win their first district game.
Midlothian wins 19-14.
